About The Position

Kentucky Derby Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that sits on the front steps of historic Churchill Downs Racetrack. It is one of the premiere attractions in the Louisville region, celebrating the tradition, history, hospitality and pride of the world-renowned event that is the Kentucky Derby. The Museum welcomes over 255,000 visitors annually; a large percentage of those visitors come from outside of Kentucky, journeying from across the country and the world. Position Purpose: The primary purpose for the Digital Content Specialist is to focus on content creation and digital storytelling to support the Kentucky Derby Museum’s communications, social media, and PR efforts with guidance from the Director of Communications. This role produces high-quality multimedia content, manages daily social engagement, and ensures consistency across all platforms. This role is also an essential contributor to expanding the Museum’s digital footprint, improving community engagement, and supporting cross-departmental relationships. This position will report to the Director of Communications. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Public Relations, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in content creation, social media, or digital marketing.
  • Digital experience across all social media and web platforms.
  • Strong skills in photography, video production/editing for social media and digital platforms, and graphic design.
  • Excellent communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to sufficiently pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Execute social media content calendar assignments, creating videos, graphics, photos, and copy with significant collaboration with the Communications and Social Media Manager.
  • Monitor social media engagement across all platforms and consistently gauge metrics for success set forth by the Director of Communications.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Communications department members on brand consistency and messaging.
  • Produce and upload regular content for all social media platforms plus YouTube, web, blog, and other digital channels.
  • Engage with and respond to all online comments, likes, direct messages, etc. in a timely fashion.
  • Support influencer and content creator visits.
  • Monitor and respond to public reviews (Google Business, Trip Advisor, Yelp, Viator, Get Your Guide, The Knot, and others); create review reports.
  • Support PR and social media efforts during Derby Week and for special projects assigned throughout the year.
  • Assists with awards season submissions.
  • Create digital content to support specific communications needs across all departments.
  • Collaborate with Director of Communications on out-market communications projects.
  • Perform all other Communications responsibilities and duties as assigned.
