About The Position

Summer research internship for first-year undergraduate students. Interested in gaining paid research experience in biology this summer? This opportunity, the Summer Program Advancing Research Knowledge (SPARK), is available specifically for students completing the introductory biology course sequence this spring 2026! If you would be interested in working with a Biology faculty mentor and participating in cohort-building professional development (with Dr. Lucas), please apply! The program will run approximately 6 weeks (May 11 – June 18), and you will be paid $20.30/hour for a total of 94 hours to gain this valuable experience that will assist you in building your skills in research. You will also receive travel funds to present your work at a national or local scientific conference. Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident.
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • If you have a GPA lower than 2.5, please submit a narrative explaining the lower GPA and your proposed steps for increasing your GPA
  • Must be a first-year student currently completing BL261 and have already completed BL259.

Benefits

  • This position is benefits-eligible for workers’ compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
