About The Position

The Electric Power Division currently has an opening for a Design Technologist in the Global Gas Solutions Packaging team. The position will support the design of the mechanical Balance of Plant and enclosure components for natural gas genset solutions. A strong focus will be on CHP and Standby enclosures. All designs need to be modular and designed for manufacturing, so that they can sourced either in-house or at the third-party packagers. Special design flexibility needs to be in place to quickly optimize the design to meet customer or site requirements once an order is placed to support custom orders. Enclosure solution designs will integrate mechanical components and and distribution into the packages, serving different customer applications.

Requirements

  • Experience with engine design, enclosure electrical layout, engine or genset controller development.
  • Experience with electrical codes (UL, NEC)
  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Working knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts. Experience with ProE/Creo and AutoCad Electrical
  • Product Design - MFG: Working knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
  • Product Design and Development: Working knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
  • Requires a bachelor's degree

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Virtual Reality (VR) design reviews using existing enclosure models.
  • Plan and manage engineering projects, including monthly financial reporting for North America and Rest of World solutions.
  • Coordinate the release of engineering designs for standard enclosed genset solutions, ensuring compliance with company procedures and Caterpillar engineering systems.
  • Participate in design reviews and VDRA processes to ensure manufacturability and quality for new product development (NPI) and custom orders.
  • Source components and assemblies, and support validation testing.
  • Document new engineering process flows and coordinate offshore engineering work.
  • Manage pricelists, E-models, and release pricing arrangements for options.
  • Order parts and issue purchase orders as needed.
  • Provide technical support to technical sales teams and global production facilities, including third-party packagers.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities while driving quality improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, suppliers, dealers/customers, and other departments.
  • Ensure timely completion of projects within budget.
