About The Position

Seeking an engineer to analyze customer needs to design tooling and metal forming manufacturing processes. We are seeking a Design Engineer that directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering designs for tooling. Plans and organizes technical teams to deliver effective designs, specifications, and testing for manufacturing tools and related projects. Uses current CAD/CAE technologies and completes detail designs for toolmakers. Ensures design functions properly in production. Coordinates activities connected with technical developments, scheduling and resolving design and test problems. Controls expenditures within limitations of project budgets. Preparation of interim and completion reports. Ensures that projects are completed in accordance with schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or technical related field.
  • At least two years’ hands-on or direct experience with manufacturing, tooling and/or tool design. Combination of education, internships or other related engineering and tooling experience may apply.
  • Highly proficient in Office software: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook and ability to learn new software tools.
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, Inventor or Catia and ability to learn and use other design software tools including COPRA and Master CAM (computer aided manufacturing) software.
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines. Prioritizes appropriately.
  • Ability to collaborate with coworkers.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to develop a strong understanding of production processes and capabilities, how data is captured and used internally to make decisions.
  • Ability to detect, diagnose and troubleshoot potential problems with machinery/tooling and designs.
  • Reliable and diligent with the ability to work efficiently while maintaining high standards in quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical Engineering or Design Engineering degree preferred.
  • Experience with the following software:
  • CNC Programming, AutoCAD & Inventor, Master CAM Programming, Copra roll design software.
  • Experience with roll/tooling
  • Ability to drive to other locations-insurable & valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements tool designs from start to completion.
  • Works with supporting groups to complete assigned designs including generating SQC/SPC data.
  • Contacts and/or talks with vendors as required and appropriate both to keep abreast of available product and technology and to work with specifics related to projects assigned.
  • Obtains specifications of production machinery and equipment to be used for various processes.
  • Interacts with tryout personnel relative to design concepts and makes necessary changes when required to meet design objectives.
  • Discusses with toolmakers and tool room supervisor at the time of trying out new tool design to determine the workability of those tools with the purpose of improving knowledge of design and helping tryout and design.
  • Considers cost of manufacture, cost of production, maintainability and safety of workers in all designs.
  • Documents design and design changes in accordance to company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
