The ideal candidate for the Design Engineer I position should possess a strong structural design and architecture background. Solid knowledge in steel, concrete, and masonry are essential skills. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, and execution of structural designs on a wide range of projects. The majority of work will be designing or consulting on the installation of shelter projects. Travel to project locations will be necessary. The Design Engineer I will report directly to the Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality.
  • Ability to learn structural analytical software (e.g. RISA 3D)
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to problem solve and collaborate on innovative solutions.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Candidates currently pursuing their bachelor’s degree in Engineering may be considered if they have completed at least one year of an engineering program.
  • Must be able to accurately exchange information with co-workers, customers, and management.
  • Must be able to remain in stationary position for 90% of the working day.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as copiers, printers, and telephones.
  • Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am - 5:00 pm, Friday from 7:30 am - 4:30 pm. Overtime is required, as needed to support production goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment, planning and execution of structural designs on a wide range of projects.
  • Designing shelter projects to withstand site specific design criteria.
  • Consulting on the installation of projects.
  • Assisting in creation and implementation of construction drawings and structural calculations.
  • Participating in team meetings to discuss project issues, coordination with other disciplines and technical issues.
  • Analyzing suitable configurations of the basic structural components of a building or other structure.
  • In-process inspections and consulting with customers and contractors on the installation of projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
