About The Position

Design Engineer I is responsible for the design and development of mechanical components and systems for mobile pump units. This role emphasizes practical, manufacturable designs including sheet metal fabrications, pump components, diesel power unit integration and sound enclosures. The engineer works closely with manufacturing, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to support prototypes, first articles, and production builds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 0–3 years of mechanical design experience in an industrial equipment manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for part modeling, assemblies, and production drawings.
  • Experience in SolidWorks PDM is desired.
  • Experience with sheet metal components and welded assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of centrifugal pumps or rotating equipment is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of diesel power unit integration is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including laser cutting, press brake forming, welding, and machining is preferred.
  • Ability to create production-ready designs that accommodate manufacturing tolerances.
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate drawings with basic GD&T.
  • Familiarity with production releasing processes, BOM management, engineering change workflows, and controlled documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Willingness to support builds and spend time in manufacturing environments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs from requirements, creating parts, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks that meet company standards.
  • Apply company design standards and DFMA principles to support manufacturability and quality.
  • Generate and release complete documentation packages, ensuring accuracy, configuration control, and compliance with standards.
  • Complete assigned projects within defined timelines and communicate progress and issues to project leads.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and first article activities; assist with troubleshooting and implementing design updates.
  • Provide shop floor support to answer questions and help resolve routine build or manufacturing issues.
  • Communicate with suppliers to exchange technical information and collaboratively resolve manufacturing or design issues.
  • Engage in root cause investigations and corrective actions for design or production issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to support assigned design activities.
  • Support internal stakeholders and respond to technical questions as required.
  • Escalate technical concerns and uncertainties as appropriate.
  • Learn company tools, processes, and industry practices; contribute ideas for improvement.
  • Seek feedback and develop technical skills and product knowledge.
  • Design to cost targets through appropriate material selection and design decisions.
  • Build knowledge of materials, components, manufacturing processes, and applicable industry standards.
  • Provide day-today technical guidance to drafters as required for assigned projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
