About The Position

Equity and Access Services (EAS) advances VCU’s commitment to the success and wellbeing of faculty, staff, students, patients and surrounding communities. From its work in the areas of civil rights, access, and equal opportunity and outreach support, EAS translates civil rights policies into practice, and delivers impactful and data-informed strategies, promoting equal opportunity and access for all. The Deputy Title IX Coordinator supports the Title IX Coordinator in the overall administration of the institution’s Title IX and Sex-Based Misconduct and support for pregnant and lactating student compliance efforts, including ensuring equal access to educational programs and activities, addressing incidents of sexual harassment, sexual assault, gender-based discrimination, and other forms of sex-based misconduct. The Deputy Coordinator/Assistant Director is responsible for working with the Title IX Coordinator to provide strategic leadership and shape institutional policy. This position involves a combination of intake and supportive response responsibilities, case management, policy development, and training efforts. The Deputy Title IX Coordinator will serve as a key resource for students, faculty, and staff, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and institutional policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or higher preferred in a relevant field such as Higher Education, Law, Social Work, Psychology, or Public Administration.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience working with Title IX compliance, sexual harassment, sex-based violence, or related areas, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Title IX, the Clery Act, VAWA, and other federal and state regulations related to campus sexual misconduct and gender equity.
  • Experience with case management, conflict resolution, and the intake process in sensitive and high-stakes environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to provide empathetic support to individuals in distress and communicate complex policies and procedures effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain privacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in policy development, training, or educational programming related to sexual misconduct or sex-based violence.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and restorative justice approaches.
  • Certification or training in Title IX compliance or other relevant legal areas (e.g., NASPA, ATIXA, NCHERM).
