About The Position

The Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Support and Case Management (DSCM) facilitates initial response to reports of gender-based misconduct or behaviors prohibited by Title IX impacting UA students faculty or staff. The DSCM reports to the Title IX Coordinator and serves as a member of the Dean of Students Office to ensure consistent and fair administration of the University of Akron protocols and procedures for responding to reports of sexual misconduct.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree.
  • Requires a minimum of 4 years progressive experience working in a student services function advising and/or counseling students.
  • Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the University student support and services including: academic advising and degree requirements; student financial aid; student conduct; ADA compliance; Help-A-Zip, CARE and related intervention initiatives.
  • Must demonstrate competence and comfort with: survivors of sexual assault, trauma informed care; empathic response; FERPA and public records laws; UA sexual harassment policy, private/confidential assistance; and while working with all genders, and identities.
  • Must demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and ability to develop/maintain trust of colleagues and demonstrate the capacity to build coalitions and support across differences.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior working experience dealing with issues of Title IX or civil rights grievances preferred.
  • Master's degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the UA protocols and procedures for responding to reports of sexual assault, sexual harassment and gender discrimination. Provide client centered, empathetic care and counsel to students in need of support. Coordinate referrals to UA departments as outlined in UA grievance procedures. Upon request the DSCM will also provide care and support for faculty, student athlete, law students, University guests, or students from branch campuses.
  • Manage client cases for survivors of sexual assault and targets of sexual harassment. Provide private and professional care to promote success. Use online databases to track student behaviors, concerns and institutional response. Participate in assessment of University efforts to respond and prevent violence and misconduct. Generate reports that outline response and prevention efforts.
  • Conduct inquiries in support formal grievance investigations for allegations of gender-based misconduct or behaviors prohibited by Title IX. This includes scheduling, assisting with, or conducting procedural consultations, informal-resolution meetings, interviews, pre-hearing or hearings. In this role the DSCM will be cross-trained to assist team members whose core responsibility is to conduct grievance investigations.
  • Liaison with academic departments, administrative units, faculty, staff and students to provide supportive measures of assistance, promote awareness of and compliance with Title IX, Clery Act, and related federal and state sexual violence prevention laws.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Title IX Coordinator and in support of the Dean of Students Office.
  • Collaborate with and coordinate a team of dedicated professionals and direct others on daily operations and review for accuracy and consistency.
