Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a Deputy Senior Director for the Infrastructure services (IS) division. In coordination with the Senior Director of Infrastructure Services, the Deputy provides leadership, coordination and management of multiple operations functions including nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, utilities, nuclear waste, site services, and project management. Responsibilities include execution of strategic direction, organizational maturity, risk identification and management, and data-driven decision making. Implementation of the long-term infrastructure investment strategy and supporting project(s) strategy to maximize efficient and effective use of the campus facilities to enable the laboratory’s science objectives. Ensures facilities, nuclear waste management, and operational performance are in alignment and supportive of the laboratory mission and strategic vision. Sustains and cultivates relationships with the Department of Energy and external institutions to build partnerships to enable continuous improvement, benchmarking, identify organizational efficiencies and support a learning organization to advance DOE’s mission. Enables a data and risk-based decision-making organization to drive investment prioritization and ensure operational readiness and overall site resiliency. Other responsibilities include: The Deputy Senior Director has line management responsibility for central shops, site services, and facilities organizations managing a team that operates and maintains our facilities, provides custom manufacturing services, maintains our grounds and roadways, and shipping and receiving of materials. Oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of all facilities budgets, including operations, maintenance and capital projects; ensuring the directorate is delivering services in the most cost-effective and transparent way. Fosters effective communications and collaborations within the directorate while serving as a staff advocate supporting high quality, innovative programs to attract, develop, motivate, and retain a diverse workforce. Facilitates active communication between Laboratory Operations Directorates with a goal of growing effective collaboration between safety, financial, information technology, security and other operational functions. Leads engagement with the science and technology directorates to develop an infrastructure services strategy to support the program science needs. Manages teams to ensure all facilities and programs are properly maintained and in compliance with regulations and management expectations. Serves as the IS directorate Operations Officer, similar to a COO, in supporting the tactical engagement and operations with operational authority within Infrastructure Services. The role may include responsibilities to support the Argonne emergency response organization as determined by the IS Senior Director. Leaders at Argonne are expected to demonstrate a high level of competency, including strategic agility, team building, clear communication, trust-building, and accountability.
