About The Position

This is a highly responsible position within the organization providing assistance to the Marshal with establishing and implementing security policies; supervise day-to-day security operations, including planning coordinating and scheduling assignments; and coordinate emergency plans to ensure the physical safety of judges, employees, and guests of the court in the court building(s) and grounds, or in any building in which the court is sitting. The position is responsible for protection of court property, training assigned officers and contracted law enforcement officers in the operation of equipment and performance of their duties, and for acting as an intermediary between the engineering and security staff in correcting identified building deficiencies and sub-system failures. As a law enforcement officer, this position must comply with s. 943.13, F.S. and has district-wide arrest powers when exercised in furtherance of and in connection with the performance of official duties for the District Court. The position works under limited supervision.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 19 years of age, have a valid State of Florida Driver’s License and an active Florida Law Enforcement Certification.
  • Pass a physical examination, drug screen and background check.
  • No conviction of a felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement.
  • No dishonorable discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.
  • Five years of Florida certified law enforcement experience with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Non-supervisory experience in at least two of the following areas: intelligence operations, training management, and/or security systems management.
  • Ability to supervise and lead others by determining work procedures, assigning duties, maintaining harmonious relations, and promoting efficiency.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate sophisticated computer operated security system for card key access, operate and monitor CCTV, and operate X-ray, metal detection, and fire safety equipment.
  • Knowledge of facility subsystems and ability to detect failures and hazardous situations.
  • Ability to use a firearm, incapacitate and handcuff safely and responsibly.
  • Ability to dependably perform assignments without close supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with court visitors and court personnel.
  • Ability to work harmoniously in a group setting.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
