About The Position

The Deputy Library Director provides strategic and functional oversight of library public services, including all LOPL locations, outlets and public service coordinative functions, including Collection Management. Serves as Acting Library Director in the absence of the Executive Director. The incumbent participates in Leadership Team planning, high-level decision making for the entire system; and, leadership and mentoring to all employees. In partnership with the Executive Director, builds and fosters a success oriented and accountable organizational environment.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Sciences from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program.
  • Minimum seven (7) Years of related work experience, nine years of related experience preferred.
  • Management experience required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of supervisory and people or project management experience required.
  • Library leadership and management experience required.
  • Grade 5(b) Librarian's Professional Graduate Certificate as defined by the Georgia State Board for the Certification of Librarians. Out-of-state applicants must be able to obtain the aforementioned Certificate within 6 months of hire date.
  • Valid drivers license, reliable transportation and insurability required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, guidance and direction to the Director of Public Services; Director of Communications & Marketing; Director of Community Engagement; Director of Collection Management; and, Director of Information Technology, to set goals and objectives and analyze and resolve problems.
  • Serves as Acting Library Director in the absence of the Library Executive Director.
  • Plays a significant leadership role in strategic planning and service innovation for the Library system.
  • Leads efforts to provide excellent customer service with a focus on effective and consistent evaluation and improvement.
  • Oversees processes to update and improve public service policies and procedures.
  • Manages special projects and tasks, providing updates and reports to stakeholders, as necessary and upon request.
  • Develops and monitors current and future budgets applying appropriate input and collaboration with direct reports and library leadership.
  • Reviews and evaluates performance and provides coaching and feedback, as needed, and contributes to personnel decisions.
  • Participates in interviews and the hiring and training of direct reports.
  • Participates in leadership, administration, special projects, and strategic meetings.
  • Responsible for communication and collaboration efforts, both internally and externally, of library system.
  • Represents library at offsite events; initiates outreach and community partnership activities; attends meetings and participates in committees and/or organizations (partnerships) that may further the libraries' mission and goals.
  • Keeps informed of current library services, technology, collection development, collection management, and management practices, with an focus on bringing innovative ideas to LOPL.
