The Deputy Health Services Director oversees and advances nursing practices in compliance with OPWDD regulations, the New York State Nurse Practice Act, and Living Resources “Agency” policies. Provide strong leadership to the nursing team in coordination with the Director of Health Services. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure holistic, patient-centered care aligned with industry best practices. Directly supervise assigned LPNs and RNs, ensuring delivery of high-quality care to individuals served, while exemplifying the principles of servant leadership.

Requirements

  • ADN/BSN degree from an approved school of professional nursing
  • Current and in good standing Registered Professional Nurse with New York State Board of Nursing
  • At least 3 years of experience in supervision of nurses and paraprofessionals in the delivery of health care services + associate’s degree in nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in supervision of nurses and paraprofessionals in the delivery of health care services + bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing practice and management in any other field of nursing and BSN without OPWDD experience
  • 7 years of nursing practice and management in any other field of nursing and ADN without OPWDD experience
  • Knowledge of OPWDD, DOH, or other similar regulatory environments required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and Electronic Health Record Systems (EHRs)
  • Demonstrated management skills with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Ability to plan and communicate and work collaboratively with all colleagues and Living Resources management team

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for aligning and demonstrating the agency’s values while performing your job
  • Ensures communications and direct reports performance reflects the Agency’s commitment to teamwork, compliance with policies and procedures and respect for individuals and colleagues
  • Provides supervision and oversight of the Health Services Department to ensure delivery of care in accordance with state OPWDD regulations and established nursing standards of practice.
  • Responsibilities include conducting site visits where services are being rendered, performing supervisory reviews and evaluations, and participating in audits and quality assurance initiatives as directed by the Agency compliance department or HSD, as appropriate
  • Ensures that all medical records and related documentation are clearly and legibly maintained in accordance with Living Resources’ internal requirements, as well as applicable state and federal regulations
  • Prepares and attends state audits or any other formal investigation process to ensure compliance and provides support to site locations throughout the audit process with assistance and collaboration from HSD
  • Promotes and proactively assesses opportunities for improvement to ensure the consistent provision of high-quality care. This responsibility may involve, but is not limited to, participation in internal surveys within the health services department, collaboration with the quality review process conducted by the internal Living Resources compliance team and relevant committees, as well as addressing any identified trends warranting enhancement in collaboration with HSD
  • In partnership with the HSD and the Nurse Educator, facilitates initial orientation and provide continuous training for nursing staff through meetings, professional development sessions, and assigned training programs. Assess the educational needs of the team based on current industry standards, new and developing OPWDD requirements and emerging trends in patient care
  • Establishes a collaborative approach to meetings and care coordination through an interdisciplinary team structure
  • Offers leadership and support throughout agency-designated crises or official emergency declarations at the county, state, or national level, implementing the emergency preparedness plan as directed by Agency operations
  • Attends and serves on internal Agency committees and committee meetings as assigned by HSD
  • Participates in the RN on-call rotation, providing coverage in situations where the designated nurse becomes unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances and no alternative coverage has been arranged
  • Provides nursing coverage during staff vacancies to ensure continuity of care
  • Demonstrates responsiveness to agency requirements and needs as well as any directives determined appropriate by HSD or senior leadership within Living Resources
