As the Deputy General Counsel, you will report to the firm’s General Counsel and collaborate closely with the Office of General Counsel (OGC) on a broad range of legal and compliance matters, including conflicts and ethics, firm policies and templates, risk management, firm defense, and lawyer and staff training.

Requirements

  • JD degree and current admission to a U.S. bar in good standing is required.
  • 10+ years of experience, including within a large law firm office of general counsel or other relevant experience such as representing lawyers and law firms in malpractice and ethics matters.
  • Deep knowledge of rules of professional conduct.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across all levels of the firm.
  • Creative, practical, business-oriented problem-solving approach.
  • Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal, communication, and counseling skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, coupled with excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality, personal integrity, ethics and dedication.

  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research, analysis, and advice to firm partners and associates on a wide variety of issues arising from client representation, including conflict-of-interest, professional responsibility, and engagement agreement issues.
  • Assist OGC and the Firm’s Risk Management Committee with risk management policies, including drafting policies, alerts, and training materials for the firm’s lawyers and staff.
  • Stay informed of updates to the rules of professional conduct, ethics opinions, and other legal developments, and work with the OGC to provide education and alerts regarding same.
  • Provide advice with respect to ethics and other professional responsibility rules relating to incoming lateral associates and partners.
  • Assist with the firm's response to any demands or motions seeking to disqualify the firm or its attorneys as counsel in particular matters.
  • Help to develop, update and implement firm policies on a broad array of matters such as the use of artificial intelligence and other tools, new representations, social media, and matters requiring special firm approval.
  • Handle or otherwise assist with the analysis and defense of threatened or actual claims involving the firm, including supervision of outside counsel retained to represent the firm with respect to such claims.
  • Coordinate on specific matters with the firm’s attorneys who specialize in addressing client intake/conflicts, subpoenas and other document requests, and electronic discovery matters.
  • Build strong working relationships directly with the firm's partners and associates and firm leadership.
