About The Position

The Deputy General Counsel & Chief Litigation Counsel serves as chief litigation counsel for PSEG and is responsible for the oversight, representation and counsel of PSEG and all of its subsidiary companies in connection with all significant litigation and government investigations. In addition, the Chief Litigation Counsel will be coordinate all activities, internally and externally, including advocacy and strategy for litigated and investigative matters, retention of outside counsel for such matters, internal communications and remediation efforts, discovery initiatives and related disclosures. Will be a member of the EVP and General Counsel's leadership team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience, including extensive litigation experience.
  • Ideal candidate will have a range of substantive experience including commercial, tort, privacy, securities, personal injury, environmental, construction and class action litigation experience, with large exposure/liabilities and favorable outcomes.
  • Experience with government investigations and in-house experience is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively to solve complex legal challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate efficiently and to manage people effectively.
  • Team player who enjoys building relationships and working with others.
  • JD with membership in at least one state bar.
  • Department of Energy’s regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
  • Some positions at PSEG require access to information covered by the Department of Energy’s regulation 10 CFR 810 (Part 810). Responsibilities

  • Drive strategy and execution on all key strategic litigation and government investigation matters.
  • Build and manage a team of experienced litigators and litigation support personnel.
  • Oversee the corporate claims function that handles pre-litigation claims on behalf of the company.
  • Oversee outside counsel relationships, in all phases of litigation and government investigations, including selecting, budgeting, managing, and evaluating counsel.
  • Work cross-functionally with PSEG teams to mitigate litigation risk and to ensure compliance with litigation-related obligations.
  • Supervise all phases of litigation including discovery, motions, trials, as well as preparation of appellate briefs and oral arguments.
  • Handle any government related inquiries, investigations and enforcement matters.
  • Enhance and implement best practices around litigation related internal processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Lead efforts to enhance communication and reporting on litigation matters.
  • Provide legal counsel to Ethics & Compliance and Internal Investigations teams.
  • Support internal investigations with risk of litigation related exposure.
  • Provide legal advice on compliance related initiatives and strategy.
  • Keep abreast of legal and claims activities that affect the energy industry.
  • All other duties as assigned.
