About The Position

The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm in Virginia Beach, VA, has an opening for a Deputy Field Service Manager. This position is an hourly position that will report to the GBS Field Service Manager (FSM) and assist them in managing field service/installation work. Manager. The GBS Group is a commercial and government engineering services firm with a variety of contract types. Our Headquarters is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and downtown Norfolk's Waterside District and includes a world class lab with configurations of some client hardware and software systems.

Requirements

  • Must have 15+ years in the commercial maritime engineering/production industry with experience in supervising commercial electrical work teams in shipboard environments.
  • Must have 5+ years in developing cost estimates for marine shipboard work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Experience working in collaborative environments and managing multiple teams.
  • Travel requirements: 10-15% depending on where work assignments are located.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with managing commercial maritime ship repair and upgrade work in a Firm Fixed Price contracts environment is a plus.
  • Verbal and written communication is a must to establish and maintain effective working relationships both up and down the chain of command as well as with customers.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope and evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Managing assigned field service/installation work being conducted at various locations around the U.S. and overseas. Assignments include work preparation, material identification and logistics, personnel assignments, field service/installation work, quality control and compliance, scope changes, testing, and post-work close-out.
  • Lead and mentor an electrical technician crew of 15-20 personnel which may include multiple teams working in varied locations simultaneously to include safety, work quality, training and qualifications, material, and logistics.
  • Coordinate with Onsite Leads and customer reps/Ships Force personnel/shipyard reps to ensure daily reporting of work accomplished, materials/technical/admin support needed, issues to successful completion, customer support required to allow for efficient workflow to complete assigned work on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate with the GBS Field Service Manager on personnel assignments to ensure a mix of technical experience necessary to accomplish the assigned work within budget. Develop a list of materials, tooling and consumables required to complete the assigned work and assist in coordinating logistics to the job site and return of unused material.
  • Develop cost estimates for labor hours/material to accomplish future work that GBS is bidding on. This includes coordination with Engineering and Supply Chain Management teams as well as the Maritime Sales Team to produce a comprehensive and complete proposal.
  • Assist the GBS FSM to review and approve Field Service Reports and all other contract deliverables to the customer.
  • Assist GBS FSM with administrative aspects of managing multiple projects and a technician team to include accurate timesheet reporting, Project Management, material management, Quality Assurance management, and technical documentation.
