About The Position

The New York State Senate is seeking applicants to fill the position of Deputy Director of Legislative Operations for the Senate Majority Counsel and Program Office. The position of Deputy Director of Legislative Operations is responsible for performing the following duties: Providing central staff support for the Senate Majority Conference on matters related to Senate legislative procedures and operations Tracking and managing review processes, procedures, and data relevant to legislative committee operations, legislative floor operations, State Budget proposals, priority legislation, and appointments to official state positions Providing training and technical support for Majority Senators' Legislative and Committee staffs Preparing and editing briefing materials for members of the Majority Conference Assisting Senators with scheduling and preparation for committee meetings, public hearings and other meetings and events Intergovernmental coordination with Assembly, Executive, Judiciary, and local government staff on matters relating to legislative operations, events, Home Rule messages, program bills, chapter amendments, bill deliveries, appointments, and confirmations

Requirements

  • Strong organizational and quantitative analysis skills are required.
  • Strong facility with Microsoft Office suite required, and experience with spreadsheets and/or database systems is preferred.
  • All candidates are expected to live and work in the Capital Region of New York.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given for candidates with demonstrated legislative experience or a Juris Doctor.
