About The Position

The Deputy Director will assist the Borough Director with directing, supervising, and overseeing Manhattan Street Maintenance and Improvement programs. Responsibilities will include the monitoring of productivity of In-house Resurfacing and Street Maintenance forces and under the direction of the Borough Director, implementation of quality assurance programs to enhance productivity goals. Will assist with monitoring and evaluating the Borough's infrastructure needs, and the planning of the annual resurfacing and capital improvement programs. Under the direction of the Borough Director, will investigate, inspect, and determine possible solutions to significant street maintenance problems in Manhattan. Prepare reports for review by the Borough Director and Executive Staff personnel pertaining to work performed by in-house field forces. Monitor, evaluate and prepare reports on the performance of Capital Milling and Resurfacing crews according to contract specifications and In-house productivity goals. Attend numerous meetings with, and respond to correspondence received from the Executive Staff, citizens, elected officials, community board leaders and other city agencies. Monitor 311 requests, correspondence and phone numbers. Utilize Pavement Works, Analytics and other computer systems to perform data retrieval and reports. Manage and supervise a staff of supervisory, professional, technical, administrative, and field operations personnel to ensure compliance with programs targets and schedules

Requirements

  • 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and five years of full-time experience, with a public or private organization, in inspection, maintenance, construction or engineering work related to the work of a large scale highway system; at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising a staff engaged in performing the above type of work; or
  • 2. A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License and 18 months of supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive experience in civil engineering work related to highway construction or maintenance; or
  • 3. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of the experience described in "1" above; at least 18 months of supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive experience as described in "1" above; or
  • 4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above and at least 18 months of supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive experience as described in "1" above.
