Assists the dentist at chair-side during routine and special procedures, coordinates and performs all special patient procedures and for the critical review of same. Job Responsibility Performs all duties permitted by New York State Law for a dental hygienist including, but not limited to, prophylaxis and scaling; root planning; exposing radiographs; topical fluoride application; taking medical history, measuring vital signs, and recording vital signs; charting cases and periodontal conditions as an aid to treatment by the dentist etc. Performs chair side dental assisting. Prepares the operatory prior to seating patient. Sets up instruments consistent with the procedure to be performed. Escorts patients to and from the operatory. Assists the dentist by suctioning, reflecting tissues, passing instruments, handling and preparing dental materials and medicaments. Develops and files dental x-rays and maintains developing equipment and supplies. Cleans, bags, and sterilizes instruments used and is responsible for tray set-ups. Performs all responsibilities for chairside dental assisting. Performs related duties as required.
