About The Position

Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer, with direct oversight by the Dental Operations Manager, the Dental Billing Supervisor assists and serves as a supervisor for the Dental Billing Department. This role encompasses overall responsibility for dental billing and collections, addressing related questions and problems, completing special projects, maintaining patient accounts, and collaborating closely with FCCH Dental Health Center Managers on reimbursement and registration. The DBS operates in an environment involving a wide range of activities related to patient registration, coding, and billing, with the primary objective of maximizing accounts receivable collection while ensuring adherence to all state and federal billing regulations.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in business administration with an emphasis in general management, accounting or finance and/or at least five (5) years’ experience in a dental billing capacity
  • Five (5) years of directly related experience may be substituted for education
  • Certified Professional Coder (current/maintained)
  • CPR certification within six months date of hire
  • Familiarity of billing and collections within a Federally Qualified Health Center environment
  • Comprehension of mandated sliding fee discount programs
  • Ability to work on a variety of assignments concurrently within established deadlines
  • Ability to work with others in a problem solving and team environment and expected to work alongside staff as needed
  • Experience and proficiency with computerized practice management systems
  • Knowledge of skills in dental appointment scheduling, insurance verification using insurance company portals, managing multiple priorities, and telephone techniques
  • Experience and proficiency with Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement rules and regulations
  • Billing experience in multiple reimbursement methodologies such as PPS (Prospective Payment System), FFS (Fee for Service) third party billing agreements. Including In-Network and Out of Network claims submissions and aged accounts receivable
  • Extensive knowledge of third party payer billing procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of dental procedure and diagnostic coding
  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, performs multiple tasks concurrently, and uses independent judgment
  • Lead and supervise professional staff, train, counsel, mentor, motivate and evaluate performance
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with compliance programs, and ability to cooperate fully and comply with laws and regulations
  • COVID-19 Vaccination required as a condition of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an electronic dental record/practice management system (such as Dentrix, Dentrix Enterprise, Eaglesoft, or Softdent)

Responsibilities

  • Oversees dental billing of patient, third party, and/or other programs
  • Submission of accurate dental claims to third party payers via an electronic process to maximize reimbursement
  • Posting/reconciling payments from third party payers to the dental practice management system
  • Researching and analyzing denied or delinquent payments from third party payers and self-pay patients and appropriately resubmitting claims to third party payers
  • Coordinating with Dental Health Center Managers on self-pay accounts for collection
  • Monitoring and approving adjustments made on accounts in the dental ledger
  • Accurately producing daily/weekly/monthly reporting, utilizing the dental practice management system
  • Collaborates with FCCH Finance Department to insure balancing of accounts and cash reconciliation
  • Reviews and analyzes fee schedules in dental practice management system to assure compliance with contractual agreements and comparability in the marketplace, by request of the Dental Operations Manager
  • Follows up on all correspondence from third party payers, patients, or legal entities
  • Maintains files for different payer sources
  • Manages day-to-day work of the dental billing staff and trains/mentors, as required
  • Acts as payroll supervisor for direct reports
  • Completes and submits dental billing employee evaluations to FCCH HR department within required timelines
  • Creates a working environment conducive to group effort and organizational effectiveness
  • Updates dental billing manuals consistent with changes in FCCH dental billing policies and communicate changes
  • Conducts dental registration and billing training for designated dental staff utilizing the FCCH Revenue Cycle Management model
  • Works on special projects assigned by Chief Financial Officer and/or Dental Operations Manager
  • Functions effectively under stress, to include high workload with frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrates organization and time management skills
  • Performs other job related tasks and projects as assigned
