About The Position

The Delivery Services Associate position is responsible for driving MCPL owned vehicles to deliver materials to branch locations. The successful person in this position models excellent customer service through facilitating the smooth transition of items from one branch to another and sorting items on the dock and in the warehouse. The Delivery Services Associate performs manual labor to load and unload trucks and processes materials on the dock and in the mailroom.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/HiSet/GED Completion Required
  • Experience driving box trucks
  • Ability to use effective verbal, written, and discreet communication with management, co-workers, and the public.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of department processes and procedures and critical thinking skills to make decisions pertaining to the position.
  • Proficiency in providing friendly and solution-oriented customer service attitude and delivery with internal and external customers.
  • Fundamental understanding of their own contribution to a welcoming and respectful workplace and library for all.
  • Sufficient understanding of the MCPL value of intellectual freedom in order to uphold those values while performing their job duties.
  • Strong ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications including Outlook and Teams in order to read and respond to emails and messages
  • Basic knowledge of the library’s digital timekeeping and human resources system in order to accurately record time, approve time cards and update personal information
  • Demonstrates confidentiality and discretion regarding employee information and all administrative matters related to the work assigned
  • Ability to follow directions from multiple sources within the Delivery Services department, related to their individual areas of responsibility, while maintaining collaborative relationships within the Delivery Services team as well as others system-wide
  • Demonstrates mature judgment and sound decision-making skills
  • Ability to modify workflows depending on daily demands, obligations, and tasks
  • Ability to adapt to changing deadlines, workflows and tasks assigned while maintaining a polite, professional and collaborative demeanor
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive an MCPL vehicle according to company policy
  • Works both indoors and outdoors and must have considerable tolerance for weather conditions, dust, mold, scents, allergens, and communicable diseases which enable the employee to work outside at a facility, handle construction and library materials, work in older buildings and on jobsites, and interact with coworkers and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery driving
  • Transports library materials to branch locations throughout the library system via a company truck
  • Makes unscheduled deliveries and pick-ups
  • Picks up discarded boxes from branches
  • Sort Library materials and related items on the dock
  • Loads and unloads delivery trucks
  • Unloads freight from trucks
  • Receives deliveries from UPS, FedEx and other vendors
  • Determines suitability of discarded and donated books and other related materials
  • Trains employees how to sort discarded books and pack appropriately
  • Helps sort surplus and/ or donated materials and prepares them for sale or discard
  • Receives and delivers mail within the building as needed
  • Makes special delivery runs as necessary
