About The Position

The Delivery Driver is responsible for ensuring that produce, dairy, and dry good products are delivered to customers in a manner that meets or exceeds customer expectations. This role involves communicating customer preferences or issues to the Transportation Department Managers and Supervisors and the Customer Care Department. The Delivery Driver must operate Ward's vehicles safely and professionally, reporting any vehicle maintenance issues using proper inspection format and verbal communication to supervisors. The role also includes performing deliveries, pick-ups, and returns of various goods to/from customers and suppliers, using Omnitracs and an iPhone for route management, and preparing customer orders by verifying accuracy against invoices. Additionally, the driver assists with loading shorted products, informs supervisors of delivery delays or issues, completes and organizes all paperwork, balances checks and monies, and ensures vehicles are cleaned at the end of each shift. The position may involve taking multiple routes daily based on volume and client demands and performing other delivery-related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or its equivalent.
  • Minimum Two years of verifiable driving experience.
  • General knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the transportation field.
  • Ability to operate manual and automatic 22 ft delivery trucks.
  • Ability to interact with Ward's customers and be a frontline representative of the Company.
  • State of North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Department of Transportation Medical Examiner’s Card.
  • Able to pass a Department of Transportation Road Test.
  • Able to pass a Human Performance Evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that produce, dairy, and dry good products are delivered to our customers in a manner that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Communicate any customer preferences or issues to the Transportation Department Managers and Supervisors as well as the Customer Care Department.
  • Operate Ward's vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
  • Report any vehicle maintenance issues using proper inspection format and verbal communication to supervisors.
  • Perform deliveries, pick-ups, and returns of produce, dairy products, and dry goods to / from Ward's Produce customers and suppliers.
  • Use of the Omnitracs to review route assignments and log whereabouts while making deliveries using an iPhone.
  • Review paperwork for assigned route(s) to ensure that all invoices are present and in good condition.
  • Inspect cargo loads to ensure that they are packed appropriately.
  • Prepare customer orders by verifying them with delivery invoices for accuracy.
  • Deliver customer orders to customer facility, and assisting with check in and placement of products at the client facility.
  • Receive signatures on invoices for items delivered.
  • Collect any cash on delivery payments when necessary.
  • Assist Warehouse and Customer Care departments loading any shorted product for delivery routes.
  • Make Customer Care Department and supervisors aware of any delivery delays, shorts, errors, or quality issues that may require a reship to the customer immediately.
  • Complete, organize, and turn in all appropriate paperwork and invoices, making sure that all checks and monies are balanced and included in the drop.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are cleaned out properly and the end of each shift.
  • Take multiple routes per day depending on volume and client demands.
  • Complete any other delivery related duties that may be needed on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
  • Perform and document pre-trip and post trip inspections in proper Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) format.
  • Triage any vehicle issues needing immediate attention or repair.
  • Maintain communication with supervisors to ensure D.O.T. required documentation is maintained.
  • Keep track of hours worked to maintain responsibility for not exceeding D.O.T. Hours of Duty.
  • Maintain communication with Transportation Department supervisors to ensure D.O.T. required documentation is maintained (driver’s license, driving record, and medical examiners card).
