About The Position

The Dean of Arts and Sciences serves as administrator of the division and functions as the liaison between college administration and division faculty and staff. The position supervises and evaluates all programs and services within the department. The Dean of Arts and Sciences reports to the Vice President of Curriculum/Chief Academic Officer.  This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.   • Experience in the coordination and supervision of curriculum programs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise faculty and staff to ensure the division provides quality instruction and other related services.
  • Coordinate curriculum development activities and processes including evaluation.
  • Coordinate departmental schedules and course offerings for required courses.
  • Work with other division deans to coordinate course schedules and activities to ensure all students have access to necessary courses within their programs of study.
  • Assist with and coordinate all curriculum program reviews within the division.
  • Coordinate College Transfer programs and articulation agreements with other colleges and universities.
  • Maintain contact with transfer liaisons and familiarity with university transfer guides at regional colleges and universities in order to promote transfer student success.
  • Serve as liaison with Business and Industry, public schools, and other colleges and universities.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the College's Developmental Education framework and evaluate annually for continuous improvement.
  • Assist with recruitment for programs as well as advising students.
  • Provide oversight and supervision of all departmental budgets.
  • Recommend budgetary needs.
  • Recommend departmental policies and procedures and implement institutional policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate departmental pre-registration and registration processes.
  • Conduct an annual evaluation of all full-time and part-time faculty, as well as full-time staff within the division.
  • Maintain records and submit institutional reports relevant to department.
  • Advise the Vice President of Curriculum/Chief Academic Officer of departmental and institutional concerns and needs.
  • Manage academic student grievances as it relates to academic integrity and appeals, ensuring College policy is followed.
  • Maintain effective communication with all faculty and staff to promote collaboration and to provide effective leadership.
  • Provide an orientation to all full-time faculty in conjunction with current faculty to ensure appropriate training and support as new hires.
  • Provide and recommend professional development opportunities to faculty for continued instructional and professional improvement.
  • Ensure all course modalities within the division provide opportunities for high quality learning and engagement.
  • Attend appropriate professional development activities.
  • Participate in professional organizations and serve on college committees.
  • Coordinate meetings with program advisory committees.
  • Assist with equipment, inventory, and software renewals.
  • Acquire computer/technology competencies as appropriate to the position.
  • Maintain security of personal computer access.
  • Perform other professional or job-related duties as assigned.
