JOIN (joinpdx.org) is a non-profit organization that exists to support the efforts of individuals and families experiencing homelessness to transition off the streets and into permanent housing. Position Overview JOIN seeks an individual with diverse experience to serve as the Coordinator of Join’s Day Space team and direct service provision. This role leads a staff and models excellent direct service provision to a diverse and vulnerable community navigating barriers to housing stability. Services provided in the Day Space—also known as “The House”—include but are not limited to mail service, access to hygiene, food service, resource referrals, housing and health services navigation, community mediation, community advocacy, and engaging and hosting community partners to expand access to essential resources for people accessing Day Space services. The Day Space Coordinator is supervised and supported by the Housing Retention and Stabilization Manager.

Requirements

  • Supervisory experience preferred .
  • Experience with conflict resolution and de-escalation.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of homelessness, its causes, and barriers to attaining and maintaining stable housing.
  • Experience serving people facing mental health and/or addiction challenges.
  • Experience working with marginalized communities.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively with diverse groups, especially people experiencing homelessness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage people through JOIN’s relationship model.
  • Must pass a post offer criminal background check.
  • Driver’s license and the ability to operate a vehicle required to perform the essential functions.

Responsibilities

  • Model exemplary service provision for the Day Space program and build relationships with people accessing services; proactively support a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment in the Day Space.
  • Lead service provision at front counter point of contact, including walkthrough of Day Space to assess and address needs .
  • Supervise 7-10 FTE on the Day Space team, including supporting and monitoring contract compliance, timesheet review and approvals, paid time off review and approvals, and expense management .
  • Apply an equity lens to work with staff, service users, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
  • Demonstrate and support healthy boundary setting.
  • Open and close JOIN’s Day Space and Basic Services Center for regular service provision, Monday through Friday, open hours of 10 AM to 3 PM, with setup and closure taking place before and after; partner with Leadership team to determine additional Day Space closures.
  • Support and supervise volunteers in partnership with the Volunteer Coordinator and Day Space staff; when applicable, complete necessary partner agency training in order to maintain contract compliance and provide supervision to contracted volunteers.
  • Participate in committees and lead community meetings as appropriate.
  • Support agency partner initiatives and service provision in the Day Space; maintain and expand collaborative internal and external partnerships.
  • Help develop and assign jobs undertaken in a barter system where participants complete supportive tasks in exchange for services; inventory and organize the Barter Exchange database to maintain consistency with current operations and resources (food, toiletries, etc).
  • Keep all spaces utilized in service provision organized and clean; collaborate with the Facilities Committee to support maintenance of Day Space facilities; report and/or take care of urgent building matters (clogged toilets, leaks, etc).
  • Regularly update and research community resources to support staff and volunteer ability to provide information, referral, and linkage to other services; provide information, referral and linkage to alternative services in one-on-one meetings.
  • Pick up and drop off donations and supplies relevant to Day Space operations regularly/weekly.
  • Engage in JOIN’s equity and anti-racist work at the full-staff, program-specific, and individual professional level.
