Day Program Counselor
About The Position
The Center for Disability Services is hiring Day Program Counselors, also referred to as Direct Support Professionals, to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role involves providing meaningful and engaging opportunities and activities both onsite and in the community. Examples of activities include bowling, cooking, dance, crafts, volunteering, games, music, photography, exercising, shopping, and exploring the community. The organization's mission is to make a difference and shape a more inclusive future, supporting individuals to lead full, independent lives. Paid on-the-job training is provided, and prior experience is not required, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals new to the human service field or those looking to start a new career.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- NYS Driver's License in good standing (some sites require this)
- Must be at least 18 years old and be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Responsibilities
- Support and encourage independence in all aspects of daily life.
- Collaborate with your team to plan, create and assist with activities and opportunities to meet the needs and interests of the people you support.
- Provide any necessary direct personal care to the people we support.
