Day Program Counselor
About The Position
The Center for Disability Services is hiring Day Program Counselors, also referred to as Direct Support Professionals, to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role offers a great opportunity for individuals already in the human service field or those looking to start a new career, as paid on-the-job training is provided and prior experience is not required. Counselors will engage individuals in meaningful and engaging opportunities and activities both onsite and in the community, including bowling, cooking, dance, crafts, volunteering, games, music, photography, exercising, shopping, and community exploration. The Center for Disability Services has over 80 years of experience providing innovative programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Capital Region and North Country, serving over 12,000 people. The organization is committed to empowering individuals to lead full, independent lives, emphasizing that every employee's contribution is vital to their mission of promoting independence and creating a brighter, more accessible world.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- NYS Driver's License in good standing (some sites require this)
- Must be at least 18 years old and be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Responsibilities
- Support and encourage independence in all aspects of daily life.
- Collaborate with your team to plan, create and assist with activities and opportunities to meet the needs and interests of the people you support.
- Provide any necessary direct personal care to the people we support.
