About The Position

BCBST is hiring a Database Specialist to support its Commercial Operations division. In this role, the specialist will provide programming services to measure, analyze, and report on underwriting performance efficiency and capabilities to achieve organizational financial objectives. The ideal candidate enjoys working with data, communicates clearly, and takes pride in producing reliable, well-structured reports. A collaborative mindset, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn new tools and processes are essential. This is a fully remote position, following a Monday–Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, though onsite interviews at the Chattanooga, TN headquarters are required. Requirements

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel experience, with experience using advanced formulas, pivot tables and data validation.
  • SQL Server experience, including writing accurate and efficient queries, performing data extraction and validation, and working with Transact-SQL (T-SQL) to support reporting needs.
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio and basic C# concepts.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years of experience in programming.
  • 1 year of experience with information technology concepts, application development methodology, terminology, and standards.
  • Experience developing with MS Office Suite (VBA).
  • Experience developing with Visual Studio (VB.net, C#, WPF, MVVM, SQL, T-SQL, XML).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or function in a team environment sharing responsibility, roles and accountability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Microsoft Teams.
  • Must be a team player, organized, and have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of concepts similar to rating formulas, tools, databases, or reports associated with the Insurance/Finance environment.
  • A collaborative mindset, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn new tools and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing underwriting operations; creating, integrating, and modifying programs to meet financial and operational objectives.
  • Assisting in validating, testing and documenting the underwriting/quoting solution delivered.
  • Works with business users to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • May conduct presentations to provide end users with knowledge to maximize their use of developed systems.
