CANDIDATES MUST BE: Eligible for appointment from the civil service list ASSOCIATE CONTRACT SPECIALIST Transfers Or Permanent in the civil Service title ASSOCIATE CONTRACT SPECIALIST This position is canvassing for a PROGRAM MANAGER The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. DYCD is the designated Community Action Agency for New York City and administers federal Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funded programs to assist low-income individuals and families to attain the skills, knowledge, motivation, and opportunities they need to become self-sufficient and productive members of their communities. To maximize the impact of CSBG funding, DYCD targets funds to low-income communities it designates as Neighborhood Development Areas (NDAs). DYCD is seeking a Program Manager who, under the supervision of the Deputy Director, with latitude for the exercise of independent action and decision-making, will manage a portfolio of Adult Literacy and Immigrant Services programs. The goal of the DYCD Adult Literacy Program is to help New Yorkers attain the reading, writing, and communication skills they want and need to gain employment and/or pursue further education. While programs in the Immigrant Services portfolio provide services to immigrants so they can meet the challenges associated with establishing themselves in their new homes.
