About The Position

The Data Analyst (DA-IV) supports the Office of the Deputy Chief Financial Officer (ODCFO) by providing advanced functional data support and analytics within the Department of War’s (DoW) enterprise big data platform, Advana. This role focuses on improving Financial Management data accuracy and timeliness through automation and advanced analytics. The Data Analyst is responsible for identifying data inconsistencies, conducting trend analysis, and developing actionable insights to support critical financial decision-making and audit remediation efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Finance, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of concurrent experience supporting DoW requirements similar to Task 2 (Functional Data Support).
  • Extensive experience with Advana applications, including General Ledger (GL), Trial Balance (TB), Fund Balance with Treasury (FBwT), and Intra-Governmental Transactions (IGT).
  • Proven track record in data analysis, trend identification, and anomaly detection within large financial datasets.
  • Proficiency in Qlik (or similar Business Intelligence tools) for dashboard development and maintenance.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify patterns, anomalies, and root causes of financial variances.
  • Ability to summarize complex findings into concise reports for senior leadership.
  • Familiarity with DoW financial systems and data structures.
  • Excellent communication skills for briefing stakeholders and collaborating with data owners.

Responsibilities

  • Advanced Data Analysis & Reporting: Conduct comprehensive trend and data analysis to identify patterns, anomalies, and inconsistencies across millions of financial records. Summarize complex analytical findings into concise, actionable reports for senior leadership and end-users, and provide quarterly briefings to functional coordinators (e.g., DARQ).
  • Financial Reconciliation & Root Cause Analysis: Execute critical monthly reconciliations between General Ledgers, Trial Balances, and Treasury data (GL-UTB) for approximately 50+ DoW entities. Perform detailed root cause analysis on reconciliation variances to identify the source of discrepancies and generate final reconciliation workbooks for government approval.
  • Dashboard Development & Visualization: Maintain and update complex dashboards using Qlik (or similar Business Intelligence tools) to support over 15 distinct views. Ensure dashboards are continuously updated to reflect new data sources, metrics, and evolving user requirements for real-time decision support.
  • Product Support & Issue Resolution: Conduct source system analysis to troubleshoot and resolve data discrepancies. Triage incoming product issues, reproduce reported errors to confirm validity, and develop detailed requirements for product enhancements to align with audit priorities.
