About The Position

The Data Engineer (DE-IV) supports the Office of the Deputy Chief Financial Officer (ODCFO) by providing functional data support for the Department of War’s (DoW) enterprise big data and analytics platform, Advana. This role is critical in sustaining audit and financial management applications, specifically focusing on General Ledger (GL), Trial Balance (TB), Fund Balance with Treasury (FBwT), and Intra-Governmental Transactions (IGT). The Data Engineer is responsible for the acquisition, transformation, and validation of massive volumes of financial data from over 50 distinct source systems to ensure data accuracy, timeliness, and auditability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of concurrent experience supporting DoW requirements.
• Extensive experience with data ingestion, ETL pipelines, and data transformation within a large-scale federal or DoD environment.
• Experience & Proficiency in Advana data architecture and common data models (CDM).
• Strong technical skills in SQL and Python for data manipulation and analysis.
• Understanding of FISCAM (Federal Information System Controls Audit Manual) and SOC-1 control objectives.
• Ability to manage complex data transformation rules and business logic for financial data.
• Experience with Jira for issue tracking and pipeline management.
• Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot data discrepancies across disparate systems.

Nice To Haves

• Experience processing and analyzing financial data sets (GL, TB, FBwT) is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Data Engineering & Pipeline Management: Manage the ingestion and transformation of massive daily, weekly, and monthly financial data sets (including General Ledger and Trial Balance) from over 50 distinct source systems. This includes executing Pre-Validation and FISCAM checks and managing Common Data Model (CDM) transformation rules to ensure raw data elements are correctly mapped to the Advana platform.
• Data Quality & Issue Resolution: Ensure enterprise-wide data integrity by performing functional reviews of all data fixes and conducting source system analysis to troubleshoot and resolve record discrepancies. Efficiently triage incoming data issues, identifying potential product enhancements and developing detailed requirements to address emerging financial data challenges.
• Audit Compliance & Documentation: Support SOC-1 audits and sustain audit readiness by ensuring compliance with applicable control objectives. Maintain and update audit-ready documentation, including product process narratives, CDM documentation, and Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs) for all supported applications.
• System Maintenance & Optimization: Monitor data pipelines and initiate required updates or fixes by creating and managing tickets in Jira. Collaborate with system owners to identify appropriate business rules for data transformation and ensure the platform aligns with the Department's evolving financial data landscape
