About The Position

The Watertown Public Schools welcomes individuals who are willing to contribute to the successful educational experiences of the children of Watertown. Substitute teachers play an important role in the educational process. Substitute teachers must possess excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; be professional in demeanor and appearance; be punctual, reliable, organized, and flexible. As a substitute teacher, your services and contributions are necessary for the continuity of educational instruction for our children.

Requirements

  • GED / High School Diploma and two years of post-high school education
  • Previous experience working with children or young adults in educational, recreational, counseling or other supportive roles.
  • Sub Skills Basic Training Course online at www.STEDI.org, you must complete the course with at least an 85% average, this course is paid for by WPS for those qualified applicants who do not have classroom experience.
  • Must successfully pass Criminal Offender (CORI) and Sexual Offender (SORI) background checks and national fingerprinting screening (CHRI).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of teaching and child development and one or more years of K-12 classroom, substitute, instructional assistant, or practicum/internship experience
  • An education degree or teacher licensure

Responsibilities

  • Following the lesson plan left by the teacher for whom substituting in accordance with district's philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • Meeting and instructing assigned classes/duties in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Establishing and maintaining order in the classroom.
  • Maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assisting in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and School Committee Policies.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative relations with other employees.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
