About The Position

Manages and coordinates the collaborative work between da Vinci, surgeon providers, perioperative staff, marketing, and various other departments within Oaklawn to evaluate and improve the quality, consistency, efficiency, and cost of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives. Answers clinical and technical questions about the da Vinci surgical system. Tasked with plan for sustainable growth of the robotics program. Serves as main point of contact while coordinating communication between da Vinci and healthcare professionals. Coordinates surgeon access and facilitates best in care case support experience. Targets and supports new surgeons interested in da Vinci surgical procedures. Coordinates and attends regularly scheduled robotic Steering Committees and provides operational updates on the progression of the program. Works with representatives to configure the Operating Room (OR) in a way that is efficient for the use of the system. Works with Materials Management to order surgical instruments and accessories as needed. Maintains lean par levels of all da Vinci surgical instruments and accessories in stock. Creates a metric tracking system in collaboration with Clinical Analyst for robotic cases to set benchmarks and evaluates progress towards the goals in reduction of non-operative time and a more efficient OR workflow. Determines practices to create trays and where instruments could be peel packed, based off usage metrics driven by utilization data. Leans out preference cards with surgeons and nursing staff; determines which standing orders are needed for all robotic assisted procedures. Works with Surgical Services Director or Charge Nurse to ensure da Vinci designated operating rooms are properly staffed, have proper ancillary supplies needed. Establishes and explains a training pathway and clinical competencies for staff that will be working in the da Vinci cases. Educates the OR staff on updates or new products used with da Vinci procedures. Troubleshoots issues with the program during procedures. Initiates RMA process for damaged equipment. Assists as Scrub Nurse or First Assist at patient side during robotic-assisted surgical procedures, if needed. Maintains, updates, and collects the daily wrap up sheet, and other da Vinci documentation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in the State of Michigan.
  • Enrolled in an accredited Registered Nurse First Assistant Program or certified as a Registered Nurse First Assistant
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and ACLS certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and two years of experience as an RNFA preferred.
  • Clear oral expression; oral comprehension includes listening to and understanding others; speaking clearly such that others understand; deductive and inductive reasoning skills; ability to write clearly; use of technology such as EMR, selective attention - able to concentrate for protracted periods; time sharing - able to shift back and forth successfully between two or more activities; manual dexterity - to manage IV tubing, syringes, and other equipment; information ordering skills - patterns of numbers, pictures, words and mathematical operations including medication calculation.
  • Ability to work with diverse patient and staff populations with sensitivity to cultural and spiritual influences impacting patient care.
  • Efficiently manage time with minimal supervision.
