About The Position

Assists Cytology Pathologist with fine needle aspiration specimens. Prepares stains, mounts and labels slides. Participates in microscopic screening of cytology preparations. Observes and records tests results.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (or as appropriate to area of assignment), required.
• Minimum of one (1) year work experience and/or training specific to the work being done in the area noted above, required.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Basic Science or related field, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares stains, mounts and labels slides.
• Participates in Cytology conferences, Quality Assurance Program and quality control of the Laboratory.
• Assists Cytology Pathologist with fine needle aspiration specimens.
• Participates in microscopic screening of cytology preparations for the presence of carcinoma, related neoplasms and disease processes.
• Correlates abnormal Cytology Laboratory findings and document the appropriate departmental records.
• Maintains workflow and quality of work to assure timely accomplishments of assigned workload.
• Observes test results, and records necessary data on laboratory report.
• Maintains equipment.
• Performs related duties as required.
