About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director, Pathology Supervisor and the Medical Direction of the Pathologists, perform, evaluate, and report routine and non-routine cytologic examinations, microscopic screening of both gynecological and non-gynecological material and fine needle aspirations from various body sites. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to do repetitive motion, perform activities that require fine motor skills, reach, and sit. The employee is frequently required to bend, hear, and speak. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, depth perception, far vision, near vision, and peripheral vision. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to bodily fluids. The employee is frequently exposed to bloodborne pathogens and non-weather related heat or cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne pathogens, moving mechanical parts, slippery surfaces, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually very quiet.

Requirements

  • Four years of formal training or education beyond the high school level (e.g., Bachelors Degree).
  • Certification required: Cytology Technologist (American Society Clinical Pathologist).
  • None required.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of 12-month CAHEA (Committee on Allied Health Education and Accrediation) accredited cytotechnology program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Screen, diagnose, and report GYN cytology samples.
  • Screen, diagnose, and report NON-GYN samples.
  • Demonstrates compliance with corporate, departmental and job-specific requirements.
  • Effectively communicates with physicians on calls involving results and problems.
  • Follow established department procedures and maintain quality control as outlined in the Cytology Procedure Manual.
  • Maintain all required records, reports, and files as defined in the Cytology Procedure Manual.
  • Participate in CAP surveys four (4) times annually for GYN and non-GYN.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
