About The Position

The Customer Support & Waste Management Specialist is responsible for providing front‑line customer service while sampling, profiling, overseeing, documenting, and coordinating the disposal of hazardous and radioactive wastes. This work is completed using information from site assessments, field sampling, surveys, and laboratory data, and requires exceptional attention to detail, strong customer service skills, and working knowledge of hazardous and radioactive materials regulations, including NORM/TENORM. This is a full‑time position that typically reports to the Compliance Director/Corporate RSO or Customer Service/Waste & Logistics leadership, depending on organizational structure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sciences, Health Physics, Environmental Sciences, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience in hazardous waste, radiation safety, or environmental services may be considered.
  • At least 2 years of experience in hazardous waste, lab analysis review, and profiling waste at disposal facilities, plus 1 or more years in customer service, logistics, or administrative support roles.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Class 7 radioactive material shipper, RCRA hazardous‑waste shipper, and DOT Hazmat Shipper certifications.
  • Working knowledge of RCRA hazardous‑waste regulations (waste characterization, waste codes, generator categories, LDRs) and DOT hazardous materials regulations for classification, packaging, marking, labeling, placarding, and documentation.
  • Exposure to, or training in, radioactive materials concepts (activity units, half‑life, radiation types, contamination vs. exposure) and relevant regulatory frameworks (NRC/Agreement State) as they impact shipping, profiling, and disposal documentation.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with clients, regulators, team members, and vendors; able to create reports, daily logs, SOPs, and other documentation.
  • Excellent typing and data‑management skills; proficient with Microsoft Office, Google tools, workflow/project‑management platforms, and specialized ERP/CRM and waste‑tracking systems; high attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and multi‑tasking skills to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

  • One or more years of experience with NORM/TENORM management and regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary customer contact by phone and email for inquiries on services, pricing, waste acceptance, profiling status, scheduling, and shipment status, routing technical questions to appropriate staff as needed.
  • Update clients on a timely basis regarding lab analysis status, profiling and waste acceptance, permits, transport, and final disposal; ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and clear communication.
  • Use workflow and project‑management tools (e.g., Click Up or similar), email, and verbal communication to effectively communicate upcoming deadlines, deliverables, and project status with clients and internal teams.
  • Sample and profile waste streams using field sampling data, surveys, and laboratory reports, and assist with selecting appropriate receiving facilities under the direction of waste and logistics leadership.
  • Use disposal‑vendor systems and paperwork processes to submit and manage waste profiles, obtain waste pricing, and support development of project estimates.
  • Prepare and process shipping documentation, including hazardous‑waste manifests, bills of lading, LDR forms, radioactive material shipping papers, and import/export notifications in accordance with RCRA, DOT, Class 7, and facility‑specific requirements.
  • Coordinate with Operations and field teams to schedule and ensure execution of assigned projects, including sampling events, shipping activities, radiation surveys, and disposal activities, sometimes as part of the field crew.
  • Maintain and update project calendars and personal calendars to schedule projects and meetings; manage multiple priorities to meet client and regulatory expectations with accountability, timeliness, and excellence.
  • Obtain and track required import/export permits and ensure applicable notifications (e.g., to regulatory boards or compacts) are completed on a timely basis after transport and disposal.
  • Enter and maintain accurate customer, order, and waste‑stream information in ERP/CRM and waste‑tracking systems; generate standard and ad hoc reports on volume, revenue, manifest/shipment activity, and project status.
  • Assist with records control and retention by organizing and maintaining electronic and hard‑copy files related to customers, waste profiles, project documentation, and regulatory records.
  • Manage sampling‑supply inventory (e.g., bottle kits, coolers, bailers, coliwasa tubes, PPE) and coordinate ordering to support current and upcoming projects.
  • Complete assigned training and pursue additional training as new waste streams or regulatory requirements are introduced, including radiation and health physics topics.
  • Support field projects as necessary, including shipping activities, radiation surveys, sampling events, and compliance paperwork; assist with report writing, data analysis, and basic modeling where applicable.
  • Manage instrument calibration logistics for clients or internal operations by tracking due dates, facilitating instrument pickup/delivery, and arranging rental instruments when necessary.
