About The Position

This is the first level of the customer service series. Incumbents perform customer service in person and by telephone, data entry, and processing work in utilities. Additionally, incumbents will file records and documents, take payments and monies and account for customer/City funds, maintain related records and accounts, perform research on documents and customer questions, and maintain supplies and forms. Bilingual skills in Spanish and English are a valuable asset for this position. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong communication, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent service to the community. Requirements

  • One (1) year of general accounting and/or customer service experience.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Proficiency with 10-key adding machine.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • The selected candidate must comply with the City of Grand Junction's Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards for handling and securing payment card information.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting with a variety of routine customer service and administrative support functions, including responding to general and specific inquiries from customers regarding regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Research and respond to inquiries and direct customers to the appropriate City divisions and departments.
  • Process and enter information on assigned databases and departmental software systems.
  • Complete work orders; perform appropriate tags and shut offs to specific customer utility accounts.
  • Monitor and track delinquent utility accounts; calculate payment schedules and fees using established formulas.
  • Collect and process a high volume of utility, departmental, and miscellaneous cash receipts.
