About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Foreman, the Custodian is responsible for: Perform all assigned facility maintenance and clean-up. Perform routine outdoor maintenance functions. Assist in requisitioning and inventorying all janitorial equipment and supplies. Assist in the performance of daily checklists and maintenance procedure items. Recommend improved maintenance techniques and procedures based on experience and training. Assist in the preparation and monitoring of maintenance supplies. Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Support all aspects of the Peoria Park District Safety Program. Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license. Pick up and/or deliver supplies, equipment, and materials as assigned. Wear a designated Park District uniform. Perform other duties as assigned: which are reasonably related to the duties described; or which need to be performed promptly to avoid safety hazards or to protect Park District property; or which are not generally described in other job descriptions; or when the amount of work exceeds the availability of Park District employees within the appropriate job classification. Essential Functions: The work requires physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment, and materials that are relative to the services rendered. Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and twisting are required; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on each leg of a repetitive unloading/reloading process; activities involving risks that are typically associated with athletic, recreational, and facility rental events; normal safety precautions typical for these areas of service are required. Exposure to power equipment, outdoor turf/field implements and chemicals, indoor cleaning agents and solutions and various hand tools will be required. The indoor work environment is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Outdoor work will expose the incumbent to a wide range of seasonal weather patterns and environmental conditions

Requirements

  • Education – A high school diploma or equivalent is desired.
  • Knowledge and Ability – Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Ability to operate standard mechanized cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to ascertain supply needs.
  • Ability to prepare facility for programs, meetings, and rentals according to daily schedule.
  • Ability to perform routine groundskeeping functions as directed.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work weekend, evening, and holiday hours.
  • Personal – Must demonstrate reliability, initiative, tact, and resourcefulness

Nice To Haves

  • Experience – One year experience in janitorial duties and procedures preferred.
