About The Position

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Custodial Supervisor to join our team.  The YMCA focuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods. As a Custodial Supervisor, you will perform the necessary functions and activities required to maintain a clean and pleasing appearance of the building. Individuals in this role will assist the facilities director in the supervision of the volunteer and part-time custodial workforce.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of custodial and office equipment.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).

  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
  • 2+ years of custodial, janitorial or housekeeping experience required.
  • 2+ years of lead, supervisory or management experience required.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Understanding cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe, efficient use.
  • Positive attitude and previous experience working with diverse populations.
  • Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day. Complete other online and in-person training as required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all duties as required by the supervisor on the weekly work assignment list and maintain upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.  Return list to supervisor at end of the week with completed items checked off and informational notes; receive a new list at the start of shift at the beginning of each week.
  • Interior cleaning including, but not limited to, vacuuming carpets, cleaning windows, cleaning spills, sweeping or mopping floors, removing scuff marks from walls and floors, cleaning bathrooms and locker rooms, gum removal, dusting, odor control, and trash removal.
  • Operate related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  • Make a note of requests by staff and members and report those to your supervisor, on the work assignment list.  Record and report all needed repairs and additional cleaning needs on the assignment list.  Report to supervisor conditions that require an immediate response.  Repair and clean as directed.
  • Conduct frequent inspections of the interior and exterior of the facility to identify custodial needs.  Work with the supervisor to determine priorities and scheduling.
  • Provide performance evaluation input on other custodial staff to the supervisor.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule for the cleaning of exercise equipment in the various areas.
  • Use proper techniques and procedures, and maintain a clean work area to ensure safe working practices and environment.
  • Interior cleaning including, but not limited to, vacuuming carpets, cleaning windows, cleaning spills, sweeping, or mopping floors, removing scuff marks from walls and floors, cleaning bathrooms and locker rooms, gum removal, dusting, odor control, and trash removal in accordance with established SOPs.
  • Empty outdoor trash cans, pick-up trash and debris on Y grounds, sweep walkways and entrances in accordance with established SOPs.
  • Safely operate, maintain and store custodial motorized and non-motorized equipment (to include not limited to auto-scrubber, side-by-side, Imop, CS-16, sweeper-vac, high-vac equipment, etc.). Notify Facilities Director immediately of damage, issues or repairs needed.
  • Fill and/or replace soap, hand sanitizer, towels, and other supplies.
  • Assist the Facilities Director in identifying, prioritizing, scheduling and assigning daily, weekly or monthly custodial tasks.
  • Assist the Facilities Director with hiring, onboarding, training and mentoring staff.
  • Serve as quality control for all custodial work and identify areas of opportunity. Provide coaching, mentorship and retraining to staff to improve areas of work needed to ensure a safe and clean environment for members, guests and staff.
  • Order and maintain the inventory of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and tools based on established SOP.
  • Upon receiving notice of custodial or facilities complaints or areas of need, immediately notify the Facilities Director.
  • Ensure the custodial closets and carts are appropriately stocked, organized, clean and safe.
  • Adhere to all safety and chemical protocols and procedures. Stop work and immediately report accidents, incidents and hazards accordingly.
  • Use proper techniques and procedures and maintain a clean work area to ensure safe work environment and practices, including the use of PPE.
  • Understand, review and manage SDS labels, binders and sheets.
  • During center operational hours, ensure YMCA exterior doors, storage closets are locked and secure. Outside of business hours, ensure the YMCA buildings and property are always secure and locked.
  • Assist other departments and centers as needed for ongoing or special events.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule for cleaning exercise equipment in various areas.
  • Assist the Facilities Manager in supervising the volunteer, full-time, and part-time custodial workforce.
  • Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
  • Assist the staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks, and supporting branch events.
