About The Position

Students work together with a faculty member on scholarly or artistic projects. Project Title: Busking for Reparations Faculty Mentor: Brian Evans Project Description: How can “repair” be embodied in original performance, and how does presenting that work in open, busking-style settings shape artists’ and audiences’ understandings of social justice? Student artists will serve as researcher-performers—devising movement, spoken word, and music; performing on campus and in Northfield public spaces. The process is iterative: make → share → reflect → revise, with weekly check-ins and short debriefs after each pop-up set. Timeline & fit: Weeks 1–3: shared readings on reparations/repair, community-engaged methods, safety/access protocols. Weeks 4–7: devising and micro-showings; finalize 2–3 busking mini-sets per student. Weeks 8–14: weekly busking sessions, rapid reflection, and basic qualitative coding. Weeks 15-16: Final Harvesting and co-created public sharing of findings Students receive hands-on experience in devising, public presentation, accessibility practice, and qualitative methods. Transferable Skills: Research and presentations.

Requirements

• A student interested in applying for the CURI academic year program must be enrolled as an on-campus St. Olaf student.
• There is no GPA requirement that must be met in order to apply for the program, but a student’s academic record will be considered during the selection process.
