About The Position

Provide culturally relevant educational opportunities and prevention services to youth based on the Tribe's values, tradition and culture through in school, after school and summer programming. The Culture Instructor will be responsible for developing culturally appropriate lessons and projects within the Yaghanen K-12 program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Three (3) years of experience working with youth in an education setting
  • A deep understanding and appreciation for the Kenaitze Dena'ina culture, history, and traditions or willingness to learn after hire
  • Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy
  • Must have Pediatric/Adult First Aid/CPR, or obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Creative, energetic and motivated approach to achieving goals
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple goals, projects, and deadlines
  • Demonstrate ability to lead, adapt, and align programs with change
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Good oral and written communication
  • Able to work a varied work schedule, travel to events, competitions and camps
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and be physically active
  • Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others
  • This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
  • Serves as documented evidence that the Kenaitze Indian Tribe has expressed the ineligibility of an employee to operate motor vehicles owned, leased or rented by the Kenaitze Indian Tribe, or to operate a personal vehicle on behalf of the Kenaitze Indian Tribe.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision and direction for youth participating in the Tribe's youth programs, including summer camps, Native Youth Olympics, Jabila'ina Dance Group, and Del Dumi Drum Group
  • Develops and implements cultural and language education lessons to deliver to program participants in the Yaghanen After School program
  • Works as a team member with Yaghanen staff as directed to insure cultural programming is appropriately reflected
  • Directs and supervises youth during Yaghanen summer and winter programs. This includes maintaining attendance records.
  • Provides educational support during school hours in local school buildings
  • Maintains accurate documentation in the data management system
  • Transports items (including lifting & driving) for Yaghanen programs
  • Models appropriate behavior for youth
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance
