About The Position

Step into the heart of the kitchen with our Culinary Internship — a hands-on, skill-building experience designed to give you a true taste of culinary operations. You’ll rotate through key back-of-house roles, learn from seasoned chefs, and gain exposure to the administrative and leadership side of running a professional kitchen. From mastering knife skills to understanding cost control and scheduling, you’ll walk away with a well-rounded foundation for a future in hospitality. The internship focuses on Food & Beverage Operations and has a program length of 12 weeks.

Requirements

  • Currently a University Student or recent graduate, preferably in a Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or related program.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen safety and food handling practices.
  • Food Handlers Permit required.
  • Demonstrates alignment with Columbia Hospitality’s values
  • Engaged in a forward moving educational or vocational program.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • The ability to interpret written and oral instructions.
  • Strong computer skills: Full knowledge of Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Outlook, Excel and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to obtain MAST certification desired
  • Prior culinary experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and follow kitchen safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures in alignment with ServSafe and HACCP guidelines.
  • Develop and practice essential culinary skills, including knife handling, mise en place, and basic cooking methods (sauté, roast, blanch, grill).
  • Support daily prep for breakfast, lunch, dinner and event service while maintaining cleanliness and organization.
  • Assist with kitchen setup, equipment use, and station breakdown.
  • Shadow and assist in various BOH roles, including stewarding, prep cook, line cook, and expo.
  • Practice plating and ticket management for a smooth, timely service flow.
  • Participate in banquet and event prep, learning large-scale production and timing.
  • Rotate into front-of-house roles to gain experience with direct member service delivery, recovery, and member satisfaction.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing deliveries while maintaining inventory accuracy.
  • Shadow culinary leadership in scheduling, ordering, and vendor management.
  • Learn the fundamentals of cost control, food/labor budgeting, and recipe standardization.
  • Assist with leading pre-shift huddles or coordinating prep tasks.
  • Capstone project will be to support definition and pricing of the club’s “Courtside Café and Snack Shack” menu and service delivery.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
