SUMMARY:The Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC Children’s Theatre Production Company (CTPC) is seeking show directors and/or director/choreographers for the upcoming summer 2026 CTPC Jr season: Shrek Jr. (June 22-July 17) and Mary Poppins Jr. (July 20-August 14) both for grades 3-8. Each camp day will include musical theatre preparatory classes, auditions, rehearsals, and the final product of a full production. CTPC also incorporates swimming and field trips. The director will work alongside selected production assistants and counselors to run rehearsals, review material, work backstage for the production, and any other duties assigned to them in relation to the show. The director must maintain CTPC’s high standards with the appointed support staff, parent correspondence, administrative assignments, and coordinate schedules with the artistic staff. They must also discuss, plan, and help source the CTPC props, set, and costumes with other creative staff members. The ideal CTPC Director is a multi-tasking team player, an excellent communicator, is willing to go above and beyond for CTPC families and staff, is prepared to be a role model within the arts and JCC communities and has experience and loves teaching children of all ages. The CTPC Director must have extensive experience in teaching musical theatre to all ages. A background in musical theatre, narrative dance and/or extensive dance background is preferred. Must have reliable transportation. Applicants for the entire summer camp is required. Will be supervised by and work closely with the director of youth arts education. Experience and a love for teaching children of all ages, as well as extensive experience in their art form, is imperative. Submissions with directing, performance, and/or teaching reels is highly preferred.The JCC and the CTPC celebrate both being proudly Jewish and being an inclusive space for all. COMMITMENT: Hours are from 9:30AM-4:45 PM daily, must have entire show commitment from either June 22nd – July 17th (Shrek Jr) or July 20th – August 14th (Mary Poppins Jr). Must attend all rehearsals and meetings for the duration of the musical, including preproduction, the rehearsal process, tech, shows, and postproduction. Must have reliable transportation and local housing. CTPC Director Core Responsibilities: The CTPC Director is responsible for the creative development of the musical. This includes but is not limited to blocking, choreography, the scheduling and run of rehearsals, and collaborating about the shows technical aspects with additional creative team designers and the Director of Youth Arts Education. Responsible for teaching and upholding the integrity of all directorial components within the CTPC programming. CTPC Director is responsible for correspondence to families, consults those on the team that may need to answer specific questions, and emails others when needing to organize CTPC events.Must be available all of summer camp days. Must attend all pre and postproduction meetings, special events, and trainings required. The CTPC Director will be punctual and conscientious, conduct themselves with dignity, courtesy and consideration of others, and endeavor to make their work professional in quality.The CTPC Director will make every effort to create a vibrant and welcoming environment where creativity is encouraged, and aspirations are realized in new, exciting, and powerful ways. Adhere to the dress code requirements as well as always meet all JCC standards for professionalism in conduct and appearance; Instructor agrees to wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the class. Must wear JCC issued nametag or name badge.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years prior experience teaching and/or directing (experience with school aged students preferred).
  • Experience directing (preferably several) musical theatre productions is preferred.
  • Extensive experience working with differing levels of experience, age groups, and learning abilities.
  • Excels in classroom management; commands a room but remains patient and ever inclusive to all students as per the JCC and CTPC values.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, a willingness to collaborate with peers and colleagues, enjoys working on a team, and can be flexible.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the artistic team and if necessary, to CTPC families.
  • Experience overseeing and managing large groups of staff.
  • Energy and passion for working with youth and children in a recreational setting.
  • Comfortable with Jewish culture
  • Ability and passion to create inclusive environments for all students; Driven to acknowledge and respect all campers racial, cultural, and gender identities.
  • All staff are background-checked with fingerprints on file.
  • All staff are trained in preventing and detecting child abuse and reporting protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • A background in musical theatre, narrative dance and/or extensive dance background is preferred.
  • College degree within an artistic field is preferred.
  • Choreography and dance background combined with theatre is preferred.
  • Submissions with directing, performance, and/or teaching reels is highly preferred.
