Opening its doors in 2013 and expanding in 2017, this state-of-the-art acute care facility has 177 patient rooms and offers a wide variety of services to meet community needs. The Critical Care Transport (CCT) Team is available 24/7 to provide immediate medical treatment to patients presenting various critical injuries, illnesses and concerns. In this role, fast thinking and processing are essential, as every second counts in an emergency. Your tireless efforts help improve outcomes and make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, their families and your fellow caregivers. A PRN caregiver in this position works one 12-hour shift per week, with flexibility on location and schedule. One night shift per month is required. This caregiver must be available to work Monday-Friday, weekends and holidays. PRN caregivers must be flexible to work at any of the following sites: Indian River, Martin North, Martin South, Tradition and St. Lucie West. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide immediate medical treatment to critically ill or injured patients throughout the interfacility or scene transport process. Navigate an ambulance to respond to emergency calls and maintain equipment. Assess the nature and extent of the illness or injury, administer appropriate emergency medical care, communicate with medical personnel at the hospital, report/record observations and follow directives until report and hand-off at hospital. Function as an advocate for the patient and their family by supplying and interpreting information, supporting decisions and facilitating communication. Respond safely and without delay to calls for emergency assistance and report on time to scheduled obligations. Operate emergency vehicle safely and in accordance with department policy and procedures. Perform daily vehicle safety and readiness checks, reporting any actual and potential hazards. Conduct point-of-care laboratory testing as part of patient care and participate in requisite point-of-care testing maintenance procedures as applicable.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited EMT-Paramedic Training Program
  • Current state or national licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P or PMD)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Completion of a Newborn Resuscitation Program (NRP) within six months of hire
  • Operation of Emergency Vehicles (EVOC) Certification with eight hours each of driving and lecture time
  • Current Valid Driver's License (VDL)
  • Passport within one year of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in EMS
  • Three years of experience as an EMT or Paramedic
  • Experience in an Emergency Room, Fire Rescue or other critical care transport
