About The Position

The JeffSTAT Paramedic is primarily responsible for providing care to patients during inter-facility and emergency transports following JeffSTAT’s predetermined treatment protocols. The JeffSTAT Paramedic is an ambassador of Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals , as he or she is often the first Jefferson healthcare delivery team member with whom the patient and their family will have contact. Provides care to critically ill and injured patients following JeffSTAT’s treatment protocols and standards of care. Completes a patient care record, which details a patient assessment, treatment rendered during transport, and the patient’s outcome following interventions. Provides continuous education to patients and their families concerning the transport process, any interventions performed during transport, and the events that will transpire at the receiving facility Inspects medical equipment for proper functioning at the beginning of each shift; inspects the quantity of medical supplies at the beginning of each shift; completes ambulance inventory checklist; completes refrigerator temperature log; completes glucometer control testing. Maintains knowledge base for flight paramedic role by attending mandatory meetings, chart reviews, equipment reviews, skill labs, clinical rotations, and continuing education sessions related to the care and transport of critically ill and/or injured patients Completes all annual recurrent competency requirements. Maintains an active paramedic certification and all other certifications required by policy.

Requirements

  • Intubation, IV insertion, medication administration, EKG interpretation, and chest decompression, Mechanical cardiac assist devices (IABP, ECMO, VAD, Impella), external ventricular devices (EVD), Invasive patient monitoring devices (Arterial line, SWAN Gantz, CVP)
  • Three (3) years of field paramedic experience, minimum 5000 hours, in a critical care transport program or 911 ALS ambulance service. The Critical Care Transport Paramedic shall be experienced and proficient in performing advanced life support skills such as intubation, IV insertion, medication administration EKG interpretation, and chest decompression.
  • Current medical command in good standing with the Philadelphia EMS Office or another region in Pennsylvania, NJ or DE.
  • Pennsylvania Paramedic certification (EMT-P)
  • National Registered Paramedic.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) within 6 months of hire
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) audit, Advanced Trauma Core Nurse (ATCN), or Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) within six months of employment
  • Advanced Stoke Life Support (ASLS) within six months of employment
  • Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) within six months of employment
  • Delaware Paramedic certification within six months of employment
  • FP-C Flight Paramedic Certification or CCP-C Critical Care Paramedic Certification within 2 years of employment
  • FP-C required within six months of flight orientation
  • Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic NJ – MICP within six months of employment
  • Air Crew Member- Flight Paramedic required for flight providers
