The Operations team is responsible for Emergency and Non-Emergency calls throughout East and South Bay counties of Northern California with deployment centers in Alameda and Santa Clara. The Westmed Ambulance Critical Care Transport Registered Nurse is a self-motivated role with the ability to function in a high stress environment. This role will be responsible for the most critically and unstable patients (adult and pediatric) with life threating conditions. The ideal candidate will be both a team leader as well as a team member to work with EMT’s and Paramedic’s in unique healthcare environments.

Requirements

  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Minimum of 3 year’s experience with either Critical Care, Emergency Department or Critical Care Transport or a combination of the fields
  • Ability to lift up to 125 lbs. without assistance
  • Ability to accommodate a moderate amount of standing, sitting, and walking
  • Ability to accommodate a moderate to rigorous amount of static pushing, pulling, reaching and lifting (knuckle height and ankle height)
  • Ability to hear routine ambulance and medical equipment noises.
  • Must be able to wear a commercially available respirator mask with proper fit, when required.
  • Good close and distant visual capability
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Ability to work within a 12-24 job environment
  • Unincumbered CA RN license
  • Current CPR (AHA)
  • Active ACLS certification
  • Active PALS certification
  • NRP within 3 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Assessing patients quickly upon arrival
  • Heart monitor, ventilator, invasive monitoring, infusion pumps, recording, and evaluating vital signs
  • Transporting the patient quickly and safely to a hospital or long-term care facility
  • Preparing patients for the receiving facility
  • Administering medications
  • Infusing blood products
  • Monitoring patients for reactions to medication
  • Responding to changes in the patient’s condition
  • Collaborating and communicating with other members of the transport care team
  • Acting as an advocate for the patient
  • Communicating with the hospital staff and medical team about the patient being transported
  • Performing procedures as ordered and needed
  • Consistently follows evidence based practice bundles and nursing standards/procedures to provide nursing care that eliminates preventable events of patient harm and promotes excellent patient outcomes
