This job assists in ensuring the safety and well-being of behavioral health, high-ris, and forensic patients by leading operational daily rounding, providing real time education, and reinforcing safety protocols to support safe patient care. The Crisis Interventionist responds to crisis situations, delivers immediate safety guidance to staff, and collaborates with clinical teams to reduce workforce violence risks. The Crisis Interventionist ensures safety processes are followed, identifies gaps in safety practice, and escalates concerns to appropriate leadership for timely resolution.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in behavioral health, emergency response, security, or crisis intervention.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) (must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Proficiency in basic computer systems and documentation tools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to recognize and respond effectively to behavioral health crises
  • Knowledge of safety and de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to educate staff in real time on safety practices
  • Familiarity with hospital or clinical safety protocols
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
  • The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases.
  • There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts daily behavioral health and safety rounds, ensuring adherence to unit-specific safety plans and protocols.
  • Responds to behavioral health crises or safety concerns, working with staff to de-escalate and stabilize situations.
  • Delivers real-time education to clinical and non-clinical staff on appropriate safety practices for high-risk patient care.
  • Documents safety observations and interventions accurately and timely.
  • Collaborates with nursing, providers, and security to ensure coordinated crisis response.
  • Participates in patient huddles or unit meetings to provide safety updates and recommendations.
  • Supports new staff orientation by setting expectations for behavioral health safety and participates in workplace violence prevention initiatives.
  • Identifies environomental safety hazards, reports concerns to leader, and assists with high-risk patient transporation as needed
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
