About The Position

The purpose of this job is to lead an assigned work group involved in the construction, maintenance, and renovation of city buildings, facilities, or property. Trains employees and ensures the safety and quality of work group operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in the construction industry.
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no airbrake restriction within 6 months of hire.
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of building trades.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of common business software applications such as Microsoft Office, Google Calendar, and Google Mail.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining hand/power tools and motorized equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Skill in operating light, medium, and heavy construction equipment.
  • Skill in estimating time and materials needed to complete jobs.
  • Skill in communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, plans, and sketches.
  • Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others and to train others.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.
  • Ability to provide high levels of effective customer service.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to focus on tasks.
  • Ability to work on-call and respond at all hours of the day/night.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and coordinates the work of a group of employees; assigns and prioritizes tasks; guides employees with instruction or advice on tasks and assignments.
  • Performs skilled work of assigned work group.
  • Schedules routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Assists supervisors in coordinating activities.
  • Adheres to safety standards.
  • Operates a wide variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment associated with the construction trades.
  • Installs mechanical (HVAC), electrical, and plumbing components.
  • Performs concrete, masonry, framing, roofing, and general carpentry work.
  • Performs metal fabrication using a wide variety of equipment such as welders, cutting torches, plasma cutters, and hand tools.
  • Purchases tools, materials and supplies.
  • Performs snow removal and ice prevention.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • This is a full-time position with benefits and a minimum salary of $25.43/hr.
