About The Position

The Crate Builder is responsible for designing, fabricating, and assembling custom wooden crates and containers for the secure transport of sensitive or hazardous materials. This role requires strict adherence to DoD packaging schematics and specifications (e.g., MIL-STD-2073, MIL-STD-129), DOT hazardous material regulations (49 CFR), and OSHA safety protocols.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of experience in crate building, carpentry, or industrial packaging.
• Ability to read and apply DoD packaging schematics and military packaging codes (e.g., MIL-STD-2073-1E Appendix J).
• Familiarity with DOT hazardous material packaging and labeling.
• OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a physically demanding environment.
• Strong attention to detail and safety-first mindset.

Responsibilities

• Construct custom crates and skids using wood, plywood, and other materials per military and commercial specs.
• Read and interpret DoD packaging schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Apply proper bracing, blocking, and cushioning techniques for shock and vibration protection.
• Ensure compliance with DoD preservation and marking standards (e.g., MIL-STD-129R).
• Package hazardous materials in accordance with UN/DOT regulations (e.g., 49 CFR 173, 178).
• Operate hand tools, power tools, nail guns, and banding equipment safely.
• Label crates with appropriate handling, destination, and hazard markings.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant work environment.
• Collaborate with logistics and quality assurance teams to meet shipping deadlines.
