About The Position

Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment, such as portal, fixed, overhead, and mobile cranes; mechanical lifts, machines, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools. Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects. Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools. Examines parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges. Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions. Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair diesel engines. May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must have 2 years or more verifiable "hands on" experience as journey-level mechanic with diesel engine experience.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers' license.
  • Must have 2 or more years verifiable experience at the structural/mechanical journey level in the WHE/MHE equipment field.
  • Must possess mechanical hand tools necessary to perform maintenance on all MHE/WHE.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend, and follow OEM and engineering technical specifications/blueprints/manuals/procedures.
  • Must have proven ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment.
  • Must have knowledge and skills of maintaining electromechanical brakes and clutches.
  • Must have experience using precision measurement devices.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 150 feet.
  • Must successfully complete NAVFAC P307 WHE/MHE Crane Mechanic Course and General Crane Safety Course within 90 days of employment.
  • Must complete (8) hours of National Electrical Code of Safety training bi-annually
  • Must have and wear hard-toed safety shoes that meet ASTM F2413-05 standards.
  • Successful candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must continually meet eligibility requirements for access to all areas of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.
