The Clackamas County Circuit Court is hiring a Courtroom Clerk for the Honorable Michelle Bartov (Courtroom Clerk). In this role… You will provide administrative support to the judge in court. For most of your day, you will prepare the courtroom for the day’s proceedings, swear in witnesses, mark and maintain exhibits, monitor proceedings and respond to security needs, maintain audio and electronic records, update the case management system, and facilitate remote hearings. As part of your role, you will manage juries. This includes drawing, empaneling, and maintaining the transportation and security of jurors. You will serve as liaison between jurors, the court, and counsel for exhibits, forms, instructions, and questions. You will also assist attorneys, litigants, and the public in using court services and answer questions about case status or court procedures. Lastly, you will back up the judicial assistant by preparing files for pretrial review, preparing motions, orders, and judgments, managing the judge’s docket and legal library, retrieving case law, assisting in case scheduling and tracking, and reviewing documents filed with the court for accuracy and completeness. Requirements

  • At least three (3) or more years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent OR Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position
  • Experience performing a variety of clerical or administrative tasks in a business or professional environment which includes reviewing documents for accuracy, content, and grammar.
  • Experience explaining complex rules, policies, procedures, or processes to individuals who have difficulty understanding.
  • Experience identifying and safeguarding confidential information and materials which must be accessed and managed via an electronic case management system.
  • Experience working in a court or legal environment where customers face challenging life circumstances and stressful situations which require tactful and professional assistance.
  • Experience working with underrepresented communities.

Nice To Haves

  • Degrees in criminal justice, criminology, or legal studies (Pre-Law or Post-Law School) preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working as a paralegal or legal assistant is preferred but not required.

Benefits

  • We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees [OR up to 99% of medical insurance premiums for part-time employees], including mental health coverage.
  • The hourly equivalent for this position is $26.82 - $41.61. [OR The annual salary for this position is $55,788 - $86,544.]
  • 10 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, 3 personal business days, separate sick and vacation paid leaves (prorated for part-time employees), and other employee benefits such as optional insurances and flexible spending plans.
  • OJD will pay you a 5% allowance for bilingual skills (includes ASL) if you can pass a skills test and are assigned to use those skills on the job!
