About The Position

The Court Specialist II is an experienced position that provides specialized customer service for misdemeanor tickets and citations. Performs various other court related tasks and assists with jury and case file management.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED.
  • EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in cashiering, collections and/or customer service involving heavy phone/public contact which included data entry, analyzing accounts and/or resolving complaints.
  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS: No outstanding citations or warrants.
  • For some positions, must have availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Knowledge of the principles of customer service and related court support activities.
  • Knowledge of court citations and warrants.
  • Knowledge of cashiering and money handling.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, fax machine, copiers, scanner, and telephone.
  • Ability to record transactions, and keep accurate records.
  • Ability to follow instructions and apply detailed procedures to assignments.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform data entry accurately.
  • Ability to file alphabetically and numerically.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong effective relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • English/Spanish bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Receives payments from citizens for tickets and citations; enters information into computer system; makes change, and provides receipt of payment to citizen; reviews and evaluates warrants to prevent unlawful arrests.
  • Answers questions from citizens in person and over telephone regarding procedures, tickets, fine schedules, payment plans, and other options; manages case files and finalizes court dockets; communicates with officers regarding Civil citations and final dispositions.
  • Sets court dates for citizens requesting a trial; accesses court calendar on computer; provides citizen with document listing date, time, and courtroom; participates in jury management, orientation, and preparation for court cases.
  • Sets up payment plan for citizens who cannot pay total amount of fines; calculates amounts due and informs citizen of payment schedule; validates surety and cash bonds submitted by attorney's or citizens.
  • Prepares appropriate forms to set up work release arrangements for citizens assigned to provide labor in exchange for fines.
  • Reviews dockets for complaints and works with Court Specialists and other department personnel to handle information; audits files and tickets to ensure accuracy and informational integrity; processes all documents and ensures spreadsheets and filing procedures are executed appropriately.
  • Processes and validates security bonds submitted by attorneys; reviews, verifies information, witnesses signature, and prepares all final documents to be submitted to municipal judge for court date.
  • Refers controversial inquiries to supervisors.
  • Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
